Make your camping memorable with the right pop-top

Camping is an excellent way for people to socialise and bond, to get away from the daily hustle and bustle of everyday life, to get an opportunity to inhale the most deserved fresh air and take in all the beauty that nature has to offer. There are so many benefits that are associated with camping. Notably, a good camp largely depends on the type of caravan that you go with. A pop-top caravan is an excellent option because it is smaller, and relatively cheaper compared to other options.

Moreover, because pop-tops are small, you will find that storage is much more comfortable. Notably, when you want to use a pop-top for your next camping trip, there are certain factors that you will need to keep in mind. Read on to find out.

Should you buy a new caravan or a used caravan?

The first thing you should focus on is acquiring the caravan itself. You can opt to buy a new one or to obtain a used caravan. Both options have their strengths and weaknesses. For instance, when purchasing a new caravan, you will be dealing directly with the salesperson or manufacturer of the pop-top, whereas when buying a used one, you will be dealing with the previous owner, who may lack the technical knowledge about caravans. On the other hand, a used caravan is slightly cheaper compared to a new one. Weigh your options carefully before making the final decision.

The intended destination

You always have to keep in mind where you are going to drive your pop-top. Will you stick to bitumen, will you drive off-road on dirt or gravel, or will you use beaten track? Ideally, most camping sites are off-road, and more often than not you will need an off-road pop-top. An off-road pop-top has a reduced height that allows it to venture deeper into the bushes and are a great option.

The vehicle you will require to tow the pop-top

Again, there are so many factors that will determine which vehicle you will need to haul you pop-top, among them where you will camp. If you are going to drive off-road, then the vehicle must also have the ability to drive off-road. The best vehicles are the 4x4 SUVs such as Land Rover 90, Isuzu MU-X, Volkswagen Amarok TDI400, Land Rover Discovery 4 3.0 and Toyota Land Cruiser 200 TDV8 to mention a few. These vehicles have a capacity of about 300kg-450 kg. Notably, when determining whether your vehicle can tow the pop-top, you need to factor in what the caravan will carry, as opposed to the dry weight of the caravan. It is advisable to consult with the manufacturer of the caravan.
